Thing Twelve

Exploring widgets was interesting and entertaining. There seems to be a widget for any topic. I was able to find many educational widgets that could support learners and their parents. There were quite a few fun widgets, which got me thinking…maybe I will need a classroom blog and a personal blog. My classroom blog could be the one that guides and supports learning. My personal blog could be the area where I could have more license to exercise a sense of humor and pursue my personal interests outside of education.

  1. You're wise to think about separating personal and professional. In many areas, our two lives merge, and that's okay for some things. Others need to have separate tracks. Before you invest too much, you might want to wait until you've learned more about wikis (at the end of 23Things). Many teachers in this course find they have more uses for wikis with their students, whereas blogs might be more for them to use personnally around hobbies or interests. Also, not covered in this web 2.0 course are newer tools like Edmodo and ClassConnect, which are classroom specific platforms. It's good for teachers to sample different tools and decide which work best for this year, this group, where you are now. Later, a different tool may better serve specific needs.

Have fun for now. Widgets can also be used in different environments (e.g. wikis, school web page tools that allos embedded HTML code)
