Thing Twenty-Two

In your blog post be sure to include the link to your wiki. Then discuss your feelings about using a wiki. How does a wiki differ from a blog? When is one more appropriate to use than the other?

My wiki can be found at https://heather155.wikispaces.com/.  It was fun to create a wiki for a personal hobby of mine, which is classic movies.  I could invite my other movie watching friends to add to my list of movies.  I would be interested in creating other wiki pages to support my other hobbies or areas of interest.  I would also be interested in creating a professional wiki where my colleagues could continually add resources and lesson plan ideas for a particular learning theme.

A wiki is different from a blog in that it has multiple users who are all contributing ideas or more current information.  A blog usually has one author who is sharing his own ideas.  Other people can respond to the blogger's ideas, but can't change or edit the original blog.  A wiki is more appropriate for collaboration among several people.

  1. Classic movies - how fun! A wiki could be a fun way to share your interest with a group of friends!

I also like your idea of having a place to share teaching ideas, lesson plans and resources with a group of peers. Wa-a-a-ay back in 2006-07, a group of Adrian kindergarten teachers created a shared wiki at http://apskinder.pbworks.com/w/page/10194142/FrontPage just to list websites and song sites. They also had a link to "Teacher Page." It was simple, and put together by a couple of younger teachers, but the whole group could benefit. I don't know if they still use it at all - took me awhile to find the link from an old workshop page. Probably some of the links are broken, but it would be interesting to see if there are any useful links that would still be relevant. The web is always changing and it's nice to have a site (such as Weebly) that we can keep up to date if we're actively communicating with a group such as parents.

Good luck, whichever way you decide to continue. No one has time to maintain all of these tools, so start with one that will be most useful to you and really use it effectivelly before taking on some others so you'll be more comfortable!
